Deer Fence Installation
Deer Fence Basics

The choice of professional deer fence installers, our 7+ foot high black plastic meshes are virtually invisible when installed and so will not obstruct views or airflow. Properly installed deer fence is the most economical long-term solution to effective deer control in order to protect landscaping investments.

They are easy to handle and install, attaching to existing trees where available, or to 9' posts.

Determine the areas you wish to protect. Our product can be used to enclose your entire property, or selected areas. (Please note that the area should be completely enclosed for the best deer protection.) In our experience, using the product along just one or two sides of the area could result in severe damage - it will allow the deer to enter from a particular direction, try to exit from another direction where the fencing has been installed, and damage your fence in their attempt to escape. Therefore, we recommend that you completely enclose the area you wish to protect, either enclosing particular section(s), or your entire property.

Measure the area to be protected in order to determine how many feet of fence to order.

The fencing can be attached to existing trees with U-nails. When doing so, we recommend that the trees are no more than 20' apart. If so, additional supports will be needed. Tubular 1 3/8" pipe rail steel, pressure treated 2x4s or 4 x 4s, or metal poles may be used and should be spaced no more than 15' apart. For optimum results use 10' posts which should be buried 3 feet deep. Pull the fence tight before securing to supports. For additional support weave a tension wire along the top and bottom of the fence, securing it to the supports.

Deer are notorious for trying to push under fence! In order to keep them from getting in, be sure the fence netting touches the ground so that you can anchor it using 12" to 18" metal stakes every 8' - 10', or by attaching a running length of wire end to end, securely fastening it to the bottom of the fence.

You will need to attach 12" long white ribbon onto the fence every 10' at a height of 4'. This will allow the deer to see the newly installed barrier, and keep them from running in to it. The ribbon should be left up for six to eight weeks. It is most important to place ribbon along areas of high deer traffic and/or time worn paths (we also recommend using a double layer of fencing where frequently traveled paths exist).

Corner posts may need additional support by using braces or support wires to hold them steady.
